Welcome to Worship Ministry!

The music department in Christ Apostolic Church has been forming choir groups since the church’s inception. The Holy Spirit granted members the ability to create lyrics and melodies that uplifted and served people’s needs.

In CAC, the earliest music included drums, gongs, and other percussion instruments due to their easy accessibility. The most basic types of instruments were utilized in traditional religious rituals by the Yoruba people, who are the originators of the church. The music was not notated or formally written down. Its sounds can be inferred from the music of indigenous Africans who closely followed ancient religious practices.

Our ancestors composed songs during revivals and crusades, inspired by the Holy Spirit without formal choir arrangements. Included in the group were Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, Prophet D.O. Babajide, Pastor J.B. Esinsinade (formerly Sadare); Prophet Isaiah Sakpo, Prophet J. Ade Aina, Prophet John Ajilore, Prophet Emmanuel Omotunde, Prophet David Fakunmi, Pastor J.A. Medaiyese, Prophet Emmanuel Omotunde, Prophetess Sophia Odunlami (later Mrs.Ajayi), Prophetess Comfort Bolajoko, Mrs. Pearce, Prophetess Joannah Ogunranti (later Oluranti), and Prophet J. T. Durojaiye.

The next group of CAC musicians consists of Elder James Babalola (also known as Oloriire), Mr John Babafemi (Aduralere), Mr E.A. Adetunji, Mr Mathew Dada Mogaji (who later became a pastor), Mr Merry Adurojah (who later became a pastor), Pa Oshun, Dr. J.O. Ogunranti (who later became a pastor), Prince A. Adeosun, Prophet Fesojaiye Adedeji, and Pa Oyebadejo, among others. Singing holds great significance for CAC members, as it plays a vital role in sharing the gospel and is greatly valued within the church community. The majority of present-day CAC members would undoubtedly be astonished to learn that their church and its founders once clapped their hands and used hand bellsfor musical accompaniment. The Holy Spirit’s influence in CAC’s musical history is undeniable, reflecting 1 Corinthians 14:15: “I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.”

The third generation of choir leaders introduced instrumental music, particularly the harmonium and accordion, alongside traditional local drums and bells. This integration fostered evangelism, especially in southwestern Nigeria. The introduction of standard sets and a cappella music became noticeable in choirs in Lagos and among educated youth choirs in Akure, Ondo State. Notable third-generation leaders included Pastor C.O. Oyesanya, Pa Christopher, Elder G.N. Nebo, Pastor Gabriel O.E. Okafor, Pastor M.O. Babayomi, Elder P.O. Oyeyemi, Pastor Stephen Obisesan, Pastor Oluyemi Ajayi, Pastor Ayo Dakobiri, Mr. J.A. Akinpelu, Mr. Jossy O. Mogaji, Mr. Jide Oloriire, Elder Odumosu, Pastor S.O. Olukunle, Pastor Babs Mala (late), Pastor C.O.W. Awolaja, Pastor S.O. Gbadebo, Pastor Professor Bunmi Oshun, Pastor Tope Dada, Pastor Professor Femi Adedeji, Pastor Dr. Moses Awojobi, Deacon Sampson Anan, Pastor Ayo Adeusi (late), Elder M.A. Adeniji, Elder Leke Adegbaju, Elder Bidemi Oyesanya (SAN), among others.
